don't know what the above means..but I like it and don't think there is too much above his head. Also the vague reference to Mr. Dean makes it even better.

I can understand your choice of crop but what I think she had in mind (and this is me just guessing) are some old city photos of James Dean where the tops of the buildings show. Who knows? I don't try to second guess the artist and unless they ask my opinion, don't usually give it. :D
